Wooden wicks

Wooden wicks, sometimes, can be a little tricky to light and keep burning. Unlike cotton wicks, wood wicks can be inconsistent in their quality and manufacturing.

Here are a few tips if you get a wood wick candle that doesn’t perform well.

When first lighting, stay by the candle. If the flame starts to go down, reapply your lighter. You may have to do this multiple times. What you want to see is a nice wax pool around the wick and the flame staying consistent.

Trim your wood wicks only when they get a “curl” on top. Always leave some of the carbon (burnt) area on top.

Candle Safety

Safety is a big issue in the candle making business. We strive to create a product that is not only enjoyable for our customers but is also safe for them to use. A few things that you will not see in our products:

  • Dried florals and other items like stones and crystals. These are very unsafe to have in candles.

  • Wooden dough bowls. These are sold as fire retardant candle vessels. Each year we see examples of these designs catch fire.

  • Glitter. Another item that doesn’t belong in candles and usually made of plastic.

Candle Care

It all begins with an idea.

Candle care is pretty simple and doesn’t take too much time.

  • The recommended burn time is 3 hours and no more than 4. Your candle will burn cleaner and over all last longer.

  • Create a “candle timer” on your phone and use it every time you light a candle.

  • Trim the wick after your candle has cooled. Remove any excess carbon on the wick or like most cotton wicks, remove any “curl.”

  • Always keep your candles away from flamable materials and on safe surfaces.
